After all, what is The Demon Lover but exactly that same kind of book all wrapped with postmodern edginess and the supernatural? There were a lot of surprises in store for me that night, but the first was how easily Phoenix took to the idea that we’d both landed in a college populated by fairies, witches, and demons. Story Thoughts: The Demon Lover was a story recommended to me by several people who knew I loved the Deborah Harkness series. They weren't wrong. This has the same feel of epic storytelling that you can just fall be engulfed by. I was entranced by the tweaks on the standard fae, witch, vampire, and ghost folklore.

Demon lovers: witchcraft, sex, and the crisis of belief User Review - Not Available - Book Verdict Rosemary's Baby fans be forewarned: there is little entertainment but much ponderous discussion about theological history in this book on the Christian obsession with sex 4/5(1). A book that will challenge you to think. The Demon lover is a book as evocative and ravishing as its name sake, filled with gothic themes and imagery and spiced with snippets of erotica. Although I liked Callie and found the other characters all very real and well defined, my favourite character was the mysterious demon lover/5.

It delves into the discovery of the demon lover, the mysterious circumstances at her college in upstate New York, and other magical/mythical themes. I may just be overloaded with the magical settings (think Twilight, Harry Potter, Discovery of Witches, etc.), but this book just didn't seem to grasp my fictional attention like the others did/5().

The Demon Lover is a very short story, suitable for a small gap of time you want to fill or procrastinate in. I had to read this for a seminar as a companion to Hiroshima Mon Amour s screenplay and Im glad I did/5. Instant downloads of all LitChart PDFs (including The Demon Lover).
